This week we continue my series on planets in retrograde motion, and their effects on us. In 2016 Mars takes its turn of going retrograde. Mars goes retrograde every other year and lasts approximately eighty days. The red planet goes station retrograde on April 17th in Sagittarius. It turns direct on June 29th and re-enters Sagittarius on August 2nd.
Mars will have been in the sign of Scorpio in 2016 for 131 days over period of 18 weeks. This is noteworthy because Mars rules Aries and is the original ruler of Scorpio before Pluto was discovered in 1930. What is Mars? It is unabated energy and will have been in high energy Scorpio from January 4th 2016 to March 7th and again from May 28th until August 2nd. Because Mars is at home in Scorpio, it focused and contained, thus it is somewhat subdued.
Mars can be a troublemaker when it is retrograde. New plans may backfire or lose their drive to succeed. On the other hand, plans fail to happen at all. Mars retrograde is excellent for strategizing and planning, but not for taking action. Mars retrograde is useful in going back over and re-working your projects. This is an excellent time to recharge your batteries. Get ready to launch when Mars moves direct.
When Mars is retrograde, it depletes the vitality so that it is never a time to initiate. When fiery Mars turns retrograde, it becomes “anti-fire.” With a new project, it can fizzle out like a dud firecracker and never really go anywhere.
With a new romance, it’s a quick honeymoon. The beginning is the hottest and it dies out quickly. During this period please don’t think the hottie you meet at the club is your future intended.
This is not a good time to pick a fight or initiate a lawsuit. In this case, the firecracker blows up in your face. Make the opposition go first. Matters commenced while Mars is retrograde will create frustration and disruptions until they finally flame out. At this time, people become irritated when activities do not run smoothly.
Those who have Aries or Scorpio prominent in their horoscopes are more affected by this shift in direction of their natural ruler. For Arians, they find themselves being less aggressive, less impulsive and less impatient to force their way in. Both Mars-ruled types find themselves more chilled and review matters in a more objective way. They feel more patient to wait on circumstances to unfold before they take action. These individuals may not recognize the anger they feel inside. They may express an unusual passiveness while under fire because they need too much processing time before they can retaliate instead of the typical Mars “ready, fire, aim’ behavior. Only when Mars turns direct can they move the Mars energy forward.
For those who are not ruled by Mars, it may feel quite differently. They may feel more impatient to force matters to a conclusion, to get a project going or to take immediate action. I would not recommend this. Remember, initiating or impulsively taking action will not work to your favor.
Because Mars retrograde subdues anger, it can create passive/aggressive behavior in some people. Or it causes complete internalizations of strong feelings which becomes depression.
My recommendation during Mars retrograde is THINK!
Today the Sun enters Aries at 9:19 pm PDT. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and signals the beginning of a new year on the astrological calendar. As we leave Pisces behind, we say good bye to winter and step into spring. Aries is one of the cardinal signs along with Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. When we begin each cardinal sign on the astrological calendar, we begin a new season on the traditional calendar.
Take note that while The Sun goes into Aries on the 19th in the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones, the east coast has the Sun in Aries on the 20th, as does Europe. This is why it is important not to assume or generalize the unofficial dates when the Sun changes signs. Knowing the time one is born is critical when calculating as astrological chart. Depending on where one lives in the world, some babies born today will be Pisces, while those born later will be Aries.
The March equinox signals the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the earliest spring since 1896 and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. It marks that special moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator going from south to north. In 2016, this equinox arrives on March 19 at 9:30 p.m. PDT.
If you are an Aries, focus on making fresh starts and leave the past behind. When the Sun enters Mars rules fire sign Aries we are energized and prone to action. During the first week of April, the Sun is sitting in very favorable position with Saturn and Uranus. What does offer? The opportunity to break the mold and be self-expressive.
Stay tuned, there is a full moon next week!
If you are an Aries, now is the time for a reading.
Happy Zodiacal New Year,
A NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE occurs on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 5:55 PM PST.
On Tuesday, a powerful New Moon occurs in Pisces. It’s powerful because it's a Solar Eclipse. Because this solar eclipse happens in the sign of Pisces, imagination, dreams, ideals, compassion and the psyche are highlighted. This eclipse is especially about new beginnings and taking a leap of faith. Our beliefs, and how we accept our deeper selves will dictate how we view our imperfections and karma. How do we use our imagination, perspective and intuition, to rise above physical limitation to achieve our dreams?
This is a time when we should build our powers of acceptance, shoot for the stars and let go of petty annoyances. We need to revitalize ourselves through experiences that require imagination, sensitivity or that simply represent a "break" from the routine by rising above perceived limitations. We are constantly weighed down by the laws of gravity. What about the laws of levity? For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to our spirituality or find ways to loosen up and lighten up.
We may find ourselves focused on the area of life ruled by Pisces in our charts. We may be tearing down and rebuilding the Pisces areas of the chart. For you who are familiar with your charts, look at how your 12th house is affected, the house that is ruled by Pisces and where transiting Neptune is currently. Over the next few days, record your dreams and look for messages. And last but not least, take care of your mental and physical health.
From this New Moon Solar eclipse some of you may get in touch with some form of calling, or simply something you have been waiting for finally happens. Use Tuesday as a significant fresh start day. What you start on this eclipse can be experienced up to six months from tomorrow…make it good! Use tonight to meditate on your issues at hand to ensure to have a solid plan of action tomorrow.
Events that are dominated by Pisces and Neptune can be very nebulous. If you would like your chart interpreted, please contact me for a private consultation.
